Youngkin to Advisory Board on Service and Volunteerism Virginia Credit Union’s Mark Creason has been appointed by Gov. Glenn Youngkin to serve on the Governor’s Advisory Board on Service and Volunteerism. He’ll serve a three-year term on the advisory board, which promotes volunteer and community service opportunities that address local needs, primarily those related to education, community development, economic well-being, health, social and cultural advancement, and the environment.“I see volunteerism and community service as an opportunity to help build and strengthen our communities,” says Creason. “Our time, talents, knowledge, experience, and passion can all be put to use in helping others and our communities. There are so many worthwhile organizations that need and rely on the help of volunteers.”His service on the board of the Fatherhood Foundation, a non-profit helping men cultivate healthy relationships and foster the skills needed to be engaged fathers, was the catalyst for the appointment to the advisory board. A breakfast at the Governor’s mansion in June to honor non-profits led to a conversation with the governor about the Fatherhood Foundation and Creason’s passion for volunteerism and community service. In addition to his service on the board of the Fatherhood Foundation, he is an active volunteer at Shalom Farms, a non-profit farm providing healthy food and food education to those in need, and Feed More, the hunger-relief organization and food bank serving the Richmond metro area.Creason also volunteers on nights and weekends to teach financial wellness classes to employees and clients at two local non-profits — the Forward Foundation, which assists working single parents and their children, and the Nationz Foundation, an LGBTQIA+ advocacy and service organization. He’s also a longtime volunteer for various organizations through VACU’s active Community Engagement program, which last year saw staff and board members contribute 2,100 volunteer hours in service to non-profits, community organizations and schools. As a senior financial partnership manager for VACU, Creason helps build and maintain the credit union’s relationships with hundreds of regional companies and organizations that work with VACU to offer credit union membership and financial services to their employees.“I know how incredibly rewarding serving as a volunteer can be on a personal level, but I also think my role at the credit union provides me a unique perspective on how we might better engage businesses in volunteerism and community service,” says Creason. “I’m truly honored to have this opportunity to serve on the advisory board and I look forward to working with my fellow board members to highlight volunteer opportunities and ensure more people can find volunteer opportunities that will prove meaningful and rewarding.”About the Advisory Board on Service and VolunteerismThe mission of the Governor’s Advisory Board on Service and Volunteerism is to be proactive in the support of community-based initiatives to build stronger communities and enhance existing relationships that address local educational, community development, economic, health, environmental and other social/cultural needs by identifying and involving diverse community service volunteers.About Virginia Credit UnionA financial cooperative serving almost 500,000 members, Virginia Credit Union and its Member One Division offer a variety of affordable banking services, loans, mortgages, and free financial education resources, with a focus on helping people be more confident with their finances.
