The donation was made as part of VACU’s years-long “VACU Assists” partnership with VCU Basketball, through which VACU makes a contribution to CHoR each time the Rams record an assist on the court.“Our members, board, and staff are passionate about supporting our local children’s hospitals because of the direct and positive impact they have on our communities,” said Virginia Credit Union President/CEO Chris Shockley. “We’re proud to support their mission to provide life-saving and life-changing care and treatment for children in need.”VACU is a longstanding supporter of CHoR, having donated $336,500 to the hospital during the past decade, including this most-recent donation. VACU employees have participated in a number of employee-directed fundraisers for CHoR, VACU's designated charity of choice, with the credit union matching employee contributions in most instances. CHoR's Patient Champion, Jonah Smith, and his family attended the game and hung out with VCU's Rodney the Ram. “VACU continues to be an incredible partner with profound philanthropic impact that has helped so many children and families in Richmond,” said Laura Dwyer, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Program Director at Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Their generous gift of $31,600 will support CHoR's Family Resource Center, with an added generous donation of over 500 financial literacy books soon to follow. Because of partners like VACU, CHoR continues to provide world-class pediatric healthcare to over 80,000 children who visit CHoR every year."VACU is deeply committed to charitable giving and community engagement. Last year, the credit union donated more than $1 million to charitable and community causes; volunteered 2,500 hours at local nonprofits, schools, and community events; and reached more than 100,000 individuals through its financial education initiatives.
