Virginia Credit Union has donated $6,500 to combat hunger and food insecurity in the Richmond Metro area. Through a long-running partnership with the Flying Squirrels, the Richmond-based minor league baseball team, Virginia Credit Union makes a $5 donation to local hunger-relief organization Feed More for every strikeout recorded by the Flying Squirrels’ pitchers over the course of the season.“We’re proud to support Feed More and its work to address the significant and growing need for food assistance in our community,” said Virginia Credit Union President/CEO Chris Shockley. “VACU is committed to contributing to the health and vitality of our community, and a critical component of that effort is to improve food access.”In its ninth year, the Strikeout Hunger campaign is one of many VACU initiatives to aid Feed More, which collects, prepares and distributes food to neighbors in need throughout Central Virginia. With a service area that stretches across 29 counties and five cities in Central Virginia, Feed More’s network of more than 400 distribution partners and programs—including Meals on Wheels and Mobile Pantry—helps ensure our community has access to healthy meals year-round.Members and employees of VACU also support Feed More through food drives, volunteer work days, and other fundraisers.VACU and Feed More have a longstanding partnership that dates back more than 23 years.
