VACU Proud Participant, Sponsor of Career Exploration Event That Will Reach 12,000 Area Students

VACU team members participating in "Mission Tomorrow" event

Building on its commitment to education and community wellbeing, Virginia Credit Union will once again serve as a proud Platinum Sponsor for ChamberRVA and Junior Achievement’s “Mission Tomorrow” event this October.

Mission Tomorrow offers 12,000 eighth grade students from all of the Richmond-area school divisions the chance to learn more about career opportunities in high-demand industries as they prepare to enter high school. Learn more about Mission Tomorrow here.

An expected 150 businesses and organizations will exhibit at the three-day event (Oct. 22-24), showcasing careers within their industry and in many cases, offering students hands-on experience and a preview of the high school and college coursework that will best prepare them for a career in a specific field.

“This event represents an amazing opportunity to support our local schools, community and area businesses,” notes Cherry Dale, VACU’s senior vice president for financial education and a member of the Mission Tomorrow steering committee. “We’re all part of the fabric of this community and events like Mission Tomorrow highlight the vibrancy, strength and success of our region.”

Dale notes that VACU’s participation in Mission Tomorrow enables us to spotlight the diversity of the career paths available at the credit union and within the broader financial services industry. Most people are quick to associate the financial services industry with rewarding careers like tellers, loan managers and accounting professionals. Many may not realize how many career opportunities exist at financial services organizations in fields as diverse as human resources, data security, regulatory compliance, data management and analysis, and marketing.

“Mission Tomorrow also allows us to introduce ourselves as businesses and organizations to these students,” says Dale. “It serves as a good reminder to these young people of the number of job and career opportunities available to them right here at home after high school or college.”

A number of volunteers from VACU will also aid organizers over the course of the three-day event, ensuring all runs smoothly for students and participating businesses. Learn more about volunteer opportunities here.

“ChamberRVA is incredibly grateful for the generous sponsorship that makes this career exploratory exhibition possible. Mission Tomorrow plays a crucial role in inspiring and guiding our region's eighth graders as they begin to explore their future career paths,” says Brian Anderson, president & CEO of ChamberRVA. “By providing these students with firsthand exposure to a variety of professions, we are investing in their potential and empowering tomorrow’s workforce. Virginia Credit Union’s support is instrumental in making this impactful event a reality, and we are appreciative for their continued commitment to shaping a brighter future for our youth."
